Spring Flowering Dutch Iris Bulbs
Buying Dutch Iris bulbs (Iris Hollandica) online is easy at Bulbs & beyond!
The Dutch Iris (Iris Hollandica) is a bulbous Iris whose hybrids were developed by Dutch growers in the nineteenth century from the range of Xiphium Irises (Spanish Iris). Iris Hollandica is part of the Iridaceae family.
Dutch Iris bulbs are available from Bulbs & beyond in both the spring bulb and summer bulb seasons. Depending on whether the bulbs are planted in autumn or early spring, flowers should appear from April to July on plants around 50-60cm in height and will last for approximately 2 to 3 weeks.
We offer a lovely colour mixture of Dutch Iris bulbs, as well as single varieties. Varieties on offer are Dutch Iris “Blue Magic”, Dutch Iris “Golden Beauty” and Dutch Iris “White Wedgewood” (in the summer bulb season). Please check the Bulbs & beyond varieties on offer for the spring flowering season.
Iris Hollandica does equally well in the garden, patio pots and as cut flower. Dutch Iris plants are tall and slim so they look best when planted in larger swathes.
Planting Dutch Iris bulbs
Dutch Iris bulbs should be planted at a depth of 8cm with the pointed end facing upwards, spaced 8cm apart with the roots pointing downwards. They prefer full sun and a well-drained soil. Dutch Iris bulbs planted in spring should ideally be planted after the risk of the most severe frost has passed (autumn planted bulbs are somewhat better protected as they would have developed their roots already before winter).
Tip: Plant some extra bulbs of Iris Hollandica in the back of the garden at biweekly intervals for use as cut flowers in the vase or spring bouquets.
